Adventures In Parodyverse - Visionary's Big Question

NOTE: This is a sort of answer to Visionary's "The Many Loves Of Visionary" thread because nobody believes I can really find a way to torture him. It has been extended as a result of Visionary's response, and the appropriate scene extension has been added.

Visionary sighed deeply as he returned to his temporary room at the Lair Mansion. While his original quarters were still being quarantined by the EPA and fumigated, he and his belongings were crammed into an area the size of a small hotel room.

He walked in the door, slamming it shut but not bothering to lock it, and then threw himself onto his king sized bed, staring at the ceiling...and he could swear someone was there with him. He looked over to his right and noticed Liu Xi Xian lying next to him.

"What are you doing in my room?" he asked, sounding angry and frustrated.

Liu Xi slowly moved her glance away from the ceiling, slowly turning her head to look at Visionary. "I told you, the bed is nice for relaxing." She sighed. "Perhaps I should ask for one for myself."

    "Please do," Visionary suggested dismissively.

"I'm sorry," Liu Xi whispered. "Did you have a bad day?"

"No more than usual." He picked up one of the pillows and put it over his face.

"You have had an unusual amount of successful dates lately," Liu Xi began a new conversation with.

"And?" He sounded impatient, since Liu Xi hadn't moved yet.

Liu Xi shifted her weight slightly, sending a sudden vibration through the mattress, raising Visionary's hopes that she might be leaving. No such luck as she took a deep breath and said, "Living with Manga Shoggoth and Ebony...I didn't have much social contact. That is why he encorages me to visit here so often now." She looked at Visionary again. "I would appreciate some advice."

"Dating advice?" Visionary sat up, looking confused. "Liu Xi, I don't think I'm...I mean, maybe Sarah or Lisa or even Lara might be able to help you better."

"No," Liu Xi smiled and laughed. "Not that sort of advice. If you are so successful then you really must know what you like. Perhaps you can help me learn."

"For one, I don't appreciate when girls who sneak into my room and lay on my bed--" He paused. "--okay, maybe I do, but that's not the point."

"You seem to attract a wide variety of girls," Liu Xi continued. "What do you think is attractive? Do you think I am?"

Visionary bristled at that. He felt like he was about to walk across a minefield in lead shoes. "You're very pretty, Liu Xi, but you're quite a bit younger than I am--"

"So is Miiri," Liu Xi pointed out.

"That's not the point--" He paused and looked at Liu Xi. "You know how old Miiri is?" He shook his head and returned to the point quickly. "What I'm saying is--"

"I know what you are saying." Liu Xi sounded impatient as she sat up. "I am one of Kerry's friends in your view and the idea of feeling attracted to one of Kerry's friends makes you ill."

    "Yeah," he admitted. "kind of."

"That isn't what I asked," she told him, still impatiently. "If I want someone to rate how sexy I am would ask Dream for an opinion."

"Dream said you were sexy?" Visionary asked. He started to worry about what CSFB! thought of Kerry.

"Never mind that." Liu Xi sighed. "I want to know...would you date me if you could?"

Visionary paused for what seemed like an eternity. He would have to think about that one. "Well, it's... er... a complicated question. Don't you think?"

"I think you are stalling for time" Liu Xi observed.

"Not very well, apparently" Visionary muttered, flopping his head back down with a sigh. "Observant, aren't you?"

    "Yes. The answer?"

He snorted. "Okay... Would I date you if I could? Would I date a beautiful, exotic, young lady who could keep me completely off balance in more ways than with just her powers? Would I date a woman who was complex, intelligent and observant, (not to mention tenacious, apparently), who would keep me guessing with an impressive air of playful mystery? Would I be interested in a woman with a staggering amount of power that somehow still retains just enough of the lonely, scared girl she used to be that she so enjoys giving me the heebie-jeebies every chance she gets, and thinks I don't know how much it amuses her? Would I date a person like that if I could?"

He sighed and stared at the ceiling for a bit longer. "I'd have to be a complete and utter fool not to" he noted finally. "Um, in case that wasn't clear... as I don't know what you've heard about me... the answer is... yes. Yes I would. Sure, you're downright scary in terms of power, and far different from most women your age due to your, um... unusual upbringing with the Shoggoth, among other things. But it's just that kind of thing that makes you so wonderfully unique. And that's where you find the beauty in someone... the little individual touches that make them a real person to you instead of just an empty image."

"Of course, it's a moot point..." he continued with a sigh, "because I can't. Date you, I mean. Not... you know. I can do that just fine. I think. It's been a while, but... er... I'm getting a little off topic here. I can't date you... Not for the usual 'ritual decapitation' reasons... though you have to admit, those are pretty good ones, and frankly now that I think about it they would likely contribute a great deal to any failure to... you know... A-hem, but I can't date you because... it's just not who I am. I can't imagine that a date with me is what you need at this point in your life, and so I'd be going into it for purely selfish reasons. You're a remarkable girl, Liu Xi, and you're going to become a most extraordinary young woman. I'm too interested in seeing that process to go and mess with a good thing... and If anybody tries to tell you that you're anything but, send 'em to me and I'll straighten them out... Well, actually Donar will, but it'll be because he owes me a favor."

"So that's my answer to your hypothetical, and in-no-way-an-attempt-to-freak-me-out question... Yes I would... but I can't. I can, however, offer to be there in any way you think will help you become who you're going to be. I'd be honored. Just... ease up on the surprise visits to my bedroom, okay? I have a feeling I'll need all the sleep I can get to deal with anything you might throw at me..."

Liu Xi finally sat up after she heard Visionary out, and she seemed serious at first. But then she smiled and chuckled briefly. "You're quite a flatterer Visionary. I'm certain now of how you manage to attract a wide variety of girls. I guess now you want to know why I asked you that question?"

"I'm a little curious," he replied. "I mean...I'd like to know since I think I think I just accidentally spilled my entire soul." He shrugged. "I couldn't help it. I think it's the bedroom setting."

"It's perfect," she told him. "Remember the first time I visited your room? I told you that you shouldn't be so afraid of girls."

    "I remember," he said.

"It occurred to me," she continued, "that perhaps you were only afraid of me. I started to wonder if anyone was not afraid of me."

Visionary sat up now too. "So you were expecting me to...say 'heck no' and run from the room?"

Liu Xi looked down and nodded, her long hair partially obstructing her face as she did. "I don't have much experience dealing with people. Manga Shoggoth...can't really be considered human, his sensibilities are so much different. And Ebony...she keeps her social life secret from me." She looked at Visionary and added, "You are the closest I know to a 'normal' man. I needed to know if I could be...desirable to one."

"So I guess you feel better now?" Visionary asked.

She nodded and smiled again. "Yes. And you should feel better too."

    "I should?" He looked confused.

"Because of this talk we had," Liu Xi explained. "You 'spilled your soul' without being afraid. That means you trust me. It's good for you to trust someone."

"I trust a lot of people, it's just that--" Visionary paused for a moment, as if he didn't want to say the rest, but then he added, "--I guess there's something about you...you scare me sometimes but you don't make me as nervous as most people do."

"Maybe it's because both times you've spoken to me I was lying down," she joked. She then slid off the bed and stretched out. "I am going to ask for a bed like this for my own room," she said. "You may visit any time if you wish to talk."

"People might think that's inappropriate, Liu Xi," Visionary explained.

She frowned. "Since when do people accept any of your behavior without question?"

"I guess you have a point." Visionary sighed.

"And Visionary...'It's been a while'?" she taunted him a bit. She noted his deeply embarrassed look. "I find that very hard to believe," she said as she smiled. "But if it is true...don't worry. I will preserve your trust in me and keep it to myself."

"Thanks," he mumbled. He looked up to say more, but she had already left the room.
